Jordan Stiers - 2015
First a camper, then a member of Leadership 101, and now a phenomenal counselor, Jordan Stiers has been a part of Cabins4Kids for eight years now. Jordan found Cabins4Kids to be a, "home away from home." Jordan graduated in the top ten percent of her class from Truman High School in May 2015 as a three time academic letter recipient. At school she was the President of the National Honors Society, Secretary of the Executive Board of Student Council, Secretary of the Spirit Club, and a member of the Cross Country and Track teams, and crowned as the school's Homecoming Queen. Alongside her academic achievements and her commitment to Cabins4Kids Jordan has also served as the Event Chair for the Truman High School's collaboration with the American Cancer Society to host an annual Relay for Life. Jordan will be attending the University of Kansas pursuing a degree in Sports Medicine-Athletic Training and Exercise Science and aspires to become an athletic trainer.
Julia Shields - 2016
After many years of being a member of the 4-H program, Julia Shields found her way to Cabins4Kids and has been a counselor for the past six years. In 4-H she was elected to be a member of the Kansas 4-H Youth Leadership Council and was chosen as a delegate to attend the National 4-H Conference. She graduated from Saint Thomas Aquinas High School in May 2014 and is now a junior at Saint Louis University studying elementary and special education. On campus she is a member of Alpha Phi Omega, a community service fraternity. Her favorite service activities are any that involve working with children, especially those with special needs. She feels blessed to have had the opportunity to study abroad in Madrid, Spain for a semester. Her experiences at camp have taught her important values and life lessons that will be beneficial in her dream to become a teacher. Julia plans to continue being a counselor at Cabins4Kids as long as she can.
Darren Baker - 2017
Darren has been attending Cabins4Kids since the age of twelve, he has completed the Leadership 101 program, and he has returned to camp the past four years as a counselor. He graduated from the Paseo Academy of Fine and Performing Arts in 2015 and is now pursing an undergraduate degree in English from the University of Missouri – Columbia. Darren recognizes that the leadership training he received through Cabins4Kids is something that he utilizes every day in school, at work, and in his personal life. Each summer has brought him a new group of campers, each providing him with their own distinct leadership challenges. These distinct challenges have helped him to tailor his own leadership style and give him the tools to succeed in life. His family and his Cabins4Kids role models are the driving force behind his desire to become a college graduate.
